I am writing this morning from the big brown chair in our living room as Paul sleeps just feet away from me. We are HOME!!!! Late Tuesday evening we were discharged and headed home for the first time with our little one in tow. We are feeling so many things right now- excited, terrified, sleep deprived, and peaceful. Paul has been such a trooper through all of this and transitioning to home has been no different. He is resting much better out of the hospital. He loves interaction, his room, his bouncy seat and is even drinking a bit of fortified 30 calorie breast milk- the thickness of which is almost like a milk shake. We have home health care coming twice a week and weekly cardiology appointments at Vanderbilt. The hope is that we are here until our second surgery. The goal is to keep him from getting sick at all, notice even the slightest changes in him, and get him fat for surgery! Paul and I are both on a limited diet- no cheese, milk, or heavy dairy foods. This will ensure that as we fortify breast milk he is able to digest it more easily. He is also on a special formula called Elecare, which is already broken down for him so it, too, is easier to digest. Please read the blog on visiting for more information on our homecoming. We are so blessed by each of you....
