The Glenn and Home!
After a few days in the hospital recovering from the cath, we got to go HOME! Things here have been wonderful. Paul is growing like a weed at almost 12 pounds! He is tolerating his feedings quite well and laughing and smiling all the time. He loves singing, he loves it when Mommy does yoga and Daddy talks to him in a funny voice. He likes to snuggle, play with his mobile, visit with his god parents and grandparents, and flirt! We are so privileged to be the parents of such an incredible, strong little boy! Our cardiologist said to me today “he is the happiest Norwood baby I have seen!” We have a date now for the Glenn. On March 29th at 8am central time, Paul will undergo his second open heart surgery. The humble and lovely Dr. David Bichell will do the honors. We are scared, excited, nervous and glad that Paul’s heart will get more relief with this procedure.
The Glenn works by connecting the superior vena cava (SVC) to the pulmonary arteries and eliminating other sources of pulmonary blood flow, the ventricular output is directed exclusively to the systemic circulation and thus the volume work of the heart is reduced. In plain English, blood from the head is used for the lungs and the right heart (which normally pumps blood to your lungs) is starting to do the work of the left heart.
As our journey continues we ask deeply for your prayers that Paul will survive and thrive. We thank you for being a part of this journey.
