Paul’s pre-operative appointment went very well today and we were all good to go for the Glenn. As soon as we got home to settle in for the night- the phone rang and it was Dr. Bichell’s nurse. She explained to us that there is a precious little one that is in need of surgery immediately and asked if we would be willing to move Paul’s surgery so Dr. Bichell could perform this more critical case tomorrow. We thought about it for about 3 minutes and of course we said yes. The reality is that Dr. Bichell is one of a small handful of pediatric cardio thoracic surgeons in the south and one of a team of three at Vanderbilt. He takes on the most complex children- some kids others won’t take. Needless to say, he is a busy and sought after man. The further and more scary reality is that the kid who needs surgery immediately could be Paul at anytime. We would want another family to do the same for us. Bless her heart, the nurse sounded overwhelmed but relived that we were willing to concede our space. So, it looks like we are on for either Friday or Monday. This is TOUGH but necessary and we are just blessed that we could help out and that Paul is not in need of emergency surgery. We will keep you posted! In the meantime, please pray for the little one in the slot that was Paul’s, pray for the sweet doctors and nurses as they are stressing about rescheduling major heart surgeries, and pray that we will put in the right slot. We appreciate your support and send BIG heart hugs your way.
