Updates- here comes a big one
Paul is doing great. We are doing great. This month we have battled sickness, been in a wedding, had LOTS of company for Christmas, had a baby shower and had a successful cardiology visit. Paul is starting to talk!! He says momma, dada, bye bye, Gigi (for Georgia Jane), Mo (more) and several other things that we can’t quite make out. We continue with speech therapy. We had a neurological evaluation at Vanderbilts new neuro-cardiac clinic last week and they informed us that Paul may need some more PT for balance and climbing and jumping. All in all, his delays are very much about the amount of time he spent in the hospital during his first year of life and not as much about HLHS or some type of brain issue or disorder. He is right on point in terms of fine motor skills, cognitive skills, and receptive communication. He has a little catching up to do on expressive and gross motor skills but we are working on that! His lungs continue to look good and his heart looked great and sats were 88 during our clinic appointment yesterday. Dr. Parra said his valve regurgitation is the least they have ever seen it and that his heart function is doing well. He also said that we are ready for the Fontan. Wait?! What???? I could have thrown up on him when he said that.I almost did and thought to myself “I am pregnant, he can’t blame me if I do this” and then reflected that I should hold it in- he may not have another shirt here. I am not Fontan ready, not even a little bit. However, it looks like a tentative plan of August in Philadelphia for the Fontan and WE WILL BE READY for it when the time comes. Dan and I are getting trained in the practice of Reiki this weekend. We are so excited to use this energy healing as an additional means to help our boy get through this next phase in his heart journey and through his life in general. We will wait to see how God leads us through our new found skills to help others in many ways but today, for now- we are doing this for Paul. I have a few friends that practice Reiki and they have been tremendous proponents of this. This weekend we also had an amazing baby shower hosted by Chandler Todd (Georgia’s future Godmother) and Jesse McPherson. I loved EVERY minute of it. Paul was a little upset about the presents for Georgia and how much Dan and I were cooing over everything!
Here is a bit about our life lately…
“Aunt” Laura got married, it was AWESOME look at that ring bearer:
Paul makes a lot of mischief. Mischief and fraternity are his favorite words that I say lately
Dan and I are still very much in love. He’s my best friend.Marriage is tough but its so worth it. Sometimes ya just need a little sparkling grape juice.
We LOVE each of you so much. I feel your love all the time- it carries us through every moment. I feel Becky and Ethan looking down on us and loving Paul, too. I feel God’s presence in our family and no matter how tough it gets- I could not be happier to be the mother and wife of these children and this man.
Keep getting after it, Paul. Here’s to many many many years of being your Mommy.
